History

The Beginning

The Church of Jesus Christ began almost 2,000 years ago. In Acts 1, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to His disciples which started the movement of the Good News of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection that leads those who believe to salvation for eternity.

In 2019, God called a mother and her son with a group of about 5 other members of Waxhaw United Methodist Church to start a church ministry that could serve the church and those who are looking for a church service on a different day than Sunday. The Lord blessed the group with the name, “The Story.”

The Story began from an outreach to allow people who worked on Sundays or people who didn’t see themselves attending a regular Sunday service an opportunity to attend a Church service.  Saturday services are a unique time to worship, gather, and become workers for our Lord. Hebrews 10:24-25 says:  24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

It takes repentance, that is where we receive salvation.  And we all have to understand that we need to draw closer to God and trust Him and His word.  Why?  Because 1 Peter 5:8 says Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

.  The Story has been a place for Christians to come to be revived and strengthened.  We are a Church for Churches and pastors and ministry leaders and Christian workers and all those seeking the truth of the Bible.  Our purpose has been to disciple and reach those either seeking something of God, have no clue about God, or believe we are alone with no God.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

Restarting

We began our ministry in January of 2020. Everyone knows what followed a few months later–COVID-19! We were put through several challenges. The Story restarted in different locations during the pandemic due to the home church’s concern of a spread. We worshipped outside for 4-5 months. Then we were able to use the Fellowship Hall at our home church for 4 months. After we built up, there was another COVID scare, which caused us to be outside again in the thick of winter. The next Easter of 2021, we were able to gather again in the Fellowship Hall, and we met there until the beginning of 2023. Lastly, the home church that we were affiliated with, Waxhaw United Methodist Church had a vote in 2023 on whether they should disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church over the views of Scriptural Authority. The Story was taken in as a church plant ministry by Prospect Southern Methodist Church

Now more than ever Christians are waking up to see that Satan is in the schools, the Churches, the family and he has an evil hold on the thinking of society and young people.  No one seems to know right from wrong.  There is no fear of our Heavenly Father.  John wrote about a similar Church in Revelations 3: 1-3 says “To the angel[a] of the church in Sardis write:These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits[b] of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

We might only have a little longer to talk to people about Jesus.  The name of Jesus offends our society, and we should be ready for rejection and accusations of hatred.  But Jesus is the King of Kings and He will right the evil of this world.  The Bible says we don’t know when Jesus is coming, but He is coming.

Where are We Now?

Prospect Southern Methodist Church, or as some may call it, Prospect Church has taken The Story as a church plant where we have freedom to share the Gospel with the community and provide a great way of fellowship among many churches and denominations. When we began looking for a place, we were intentional about finding a location that was close to Waxhaw because 28173 is the zip code we feel called to for our ministry. We quickly found the old Mineral Springs Church of Christ building and began renting the facility for the week. We have currently served at 6403 Waxhaw Hwy. for almost a year. We hope to grow the body of believers at The Story and will continue to do so with God’s help. The Story now serves as a place of worship that unites believers across denominational lines. We have multiple churches represented in our congregation. We united with a common purpose–to reach souls for Jesus Christ and to grow in our personal walk with God.
